Psycho-social assistance project in Lviv region

The problem of psychological stabilization and understanding of oneself in the community for IDPs and understanding of community representatives about the desire of IDPs to be members of the community and additional psycho-social assistance to community representatives in connection with difficult psychological reactions to military aggression.

The problem was identified at the beginning of the first waves of IDPs, our volunteers worked with IDPs in Zaporizhzhya region. Now this problem has become acute in the Lviv region, since a significant number of IDPs are located on its territory.

IDPs’ faith in themselves, their reassurance and trust in the community open the way for their inclusion in the community. It is psycho-social activities that are the shortest way to adapt IDPs. Of course, this project does not solve the problems of PTSD that most IDPs have even from unoccupied territories, but understanding the need for psychological assistance comes from our activities.

The project is to organize regular psycho-social sessions for IDPs and representatives of the territorial community in Drohobych district.

We have a series of art-therapeutic events that allow a person to switch from problems and focus on what is happening here and now, and in the future to understand the need for such psychological unloading and the possible need to seek psychological help.

Drawing coffee, soap making, pouring candles into their own made plaster candlesticks, painting stones with dots, creating boutonnieres, etc. All this is a creative work that a person has not encountered, which always brings a positive result necessary for his subconscious.

Reducing stress levels, improving mental health, social rehabilitation, strengthening resources and developing skills. It is worth noting that short-term outcomes can vary depending on the individual needs and context of each IDP. Psycho-social assistance should be individualized and flexible to take into account the unique requirements and circumstances of each person.
